The boat that is used for the Evening Dining Cruise is the Dalesman, built-in 1994 by current co-owner James’ grandfather Alan Hughes. It is a traditional wide beam canal boat, which was featured last year when she received a new engine- her old one had driven the equivalent of three times around the world. Although some of our cruises are two and a half hours long, Dalesman runs trips of different lengths, from two hours up to 7, where she has been chartered to run to Gargrave and back, including a stop for shopping!
About Skipton
Welcome to Skipton, a picturesque historic town situated at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. This bustling market town makes an ideal base for a touring holiday of this beautiful region which is magical at any time of year. The Dales and the Moors have a majesty all of their own – harsh, dramatic, stark, wild, and stunning can all be used to describe the moorland, the valleys, and the rivers of this area.
The market town of Skipton, on the southern border of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is small by London standards, with a population of just over 15,000 people. But the town's closeness to Leeds (it sits just northwest of the city) means it has absorbed much of the northern city's coolness, earning it the reputation of the best "hidden gem" in England.
Skipton offers many shops, cafes, and restaurants and is famous for its lively outdoor market on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. The setting could not be better, as the market throngs the main street which is dominated at the top by the church and magnificent castle. Skipton Castle is a gem; perhaps the most complete medieval castle in England, a survivor of the Wars of the Roses and the Civil War and still fully roofed, making it the ideal place to shelter from the elements on a rainy day!
